Nevis Creek Pack Trip
Terry, Christian and myself packed up the beautiful Nevis Creek Valley
We reached the Besa River, but decided not to cross. The river was fast running and milky, above our skill level.
Terry and Chris rented their pack horses from Blue Creek Outfitting
Scaling the weight of the pack boxes helps with keeping the load centered.
Moose numbers are not what it used to be. The Nevis Creek valley suffers the same stress as the Sikanni valley. Bison trails and bison pup is everywhere. Looks like bison and moose don’t mix to well. But there is still some around.
A horse in the alpine sticks out like a soar thump. It didn’t take long for spectators to show up. A bend of stones rams came down the mountain to have a closer look. Soon after a caribou cow came up from the valley.
Just shy of full curl but probably legal by age. I let him live.
But the old man is not. Going in again and …..
Numbers are good in the high country, Gender ratio is almost 1:1, calves are around 7 per 10 cows.
