Terry, Christian and myself packed up the beautiful Nevis Creek Valley

The Besa River, fast running and milky
We reached the Besa River, but decided not to cross. The river was fast running and milky, above our skill level.

Pack horses from Blue Creek Outfitting
Terry and Chris rented their pack horses from Blue Creek Outfitting

Every good trip has its rainy day

Packing up
Scaling the weight of the pack boxes helps with keeping the load centered.

Terry gets the hang of it

A little rest on the trail

Christian rides the upper Nevis Creek valley

My horses are always up for some relaxation

Horse and rider at camp

Moose meat on the ground
Moose numbers are not what it used to be. The Nevis Creek valley suffers the same stress as the Sikanni valley. Bison trails and bison pup is everywhere. Looks like bison and moose don’t mix to well. But there is still some around.

The famous Ten Mile Lake

The decoy is up
A horse in the alpine sticks out like a soar thump. It didn’t take long for spectators to show up. A bend of stones rams came down the mountain to have a closer look. Soon after a caribou cow came up from the valley.

Stones sheep rams come to look at my horses

Caribou cow

Legal or not?
Just shy of full curl but probably legal by age. I let him live.

Christian is ready to go home
But the old man is not. Going in again and …..

Finally a real bull moose on the ground. 24 points total, 50 inch

Betty is packed up. She enjoys to work

One of those epic valleys of the North Country

Caribou in its habitat.
Numbers are good in the high country, Gender ratio is almost 1:1, calves are around 7 per 10 cows.

Caribou, not shy at all
